Notarized translation procedure

There are two options for notarized translation:

  1. Attestation of the translator’s signature by the notary (the translation is filed to the original document or its photocopy)
  2. Notarization of the photocopy (copy) and translator’s signature:
    • The document is translated.
    • The translated document is filed below to the original document (or its notarized photocopy). The translator’s signature on their work indicates that they are ready to take responsibility for every sentence in this document. Both documents are bound together with a ribbon, onto which a seal sticker (usually in the form of a star) is applied.
    • The document is certified by the notary, who confirms with his signature the translator’s signature, his qualification, and the quality of the work performed by the latter. The translator must be present before a notary when notarizing a translation, and the signature on the translation must be affixed in the presence of a notary.

Who needs a notarized translation?

A notarized translation is typically required for the submission of foreign documents to Ukrainian authorities, including the tax office, civil registry offices, and courts.

Currently, public and private notaries possess equal rights. So, there is no need to stand in a long queue at a public notary and wait for a long time to have a translation notarized.
